A Message from Red Cavaney

Dear Industry Colleague:

Those of us who work in the U.S. oil and natural gas industry live in a time of dramatic and dynamic global change. As the major trade association for the industry, API keeps abreast of the forces driving that change to help ensure our members have the information they need to thrive in a turbulent world market.

API members come from all segments of the industry, including small independent producers and companies that provide diverse services and supplies to larger producers and refiners.

Because of that diversity, we are very conscious of the importance of communicating freely with our hundreds of member companies and responding to their needs.

The past year has been a difficult and challenging one for our industry. We were impacted by devastating hurricanes, which crippled a significant portion of our facilities and operations and inflicted personal losses on many industry employees and the communities in which we operate. Moreover, the hurricanes exacerbated the already high fuel prices paid by American consumers. And energy policy issues were again at the forefront in Washington, D.C.

Our experience in 2005 underscores how vital it is for our industry to be united and to speak out on the energy challenges our nation faces. API in recent months has embarked upon an Educational Advocacy initiative to better inform policymakers in particular and the public about the role and benefits of oil and natural gas to the U.S. economy and American way of life.

At the same time, we continue to address the full range of energy policy issues affecting our industry. API hard at work in Washington to eliminate or reduce regulatory barriers to finding, producing, and delivering the affordable  energy resources that American consumers rely so heavily upon.

Even as our industry employs state-of-the-art technology to explore and drill for oil and natural gas while fully safeguarding the environment, we are also fostering the research that will produce new sources of energy that will come into play when the market is ready.

If you are interested in joining API and would like to see and hear more about us, I invite you to view our membership video.  For information on how to become part of the API tradition, please click here

Thank you for your interest.
