Section 7.5.1 - APIQR has reviewed its interpretation of the applicable exclusions of ISO 9001:2000 and has determined that Section 7.5.1 (Service Provision) is not the equivalent of ISO 9001:1994, Section 4.19, Servicing, despite ISO-issued guidance documents that suggest the contrary. Under ISO 9001:1994, “Servicing” was interpreted to mean “after sales” service and many organizations would be eligible to exclude this if not applicable to their organization’s scope of activities. However, APIQR has taken the position that ISO 9001:2000, Section 7.5.1, in its entirety controls any activity that an organization may provide as related to the product. It is not possible to split a section into two parts as APIQR did previously, 7.5.1 Production Provision and 7.5.1, Service Provision. Moreover, since product is defined as either tangible (something manufactured) or intangible (such as “services” in general), this part of the standard is not eligible for exclusion as applicable to an organization’s QMS.
