What's Your Energy IQ? How many of the 10 largest oil and natural gas companies are owned and operated by foreign governments? If you answered all ten, you’re correct. API and Harris Interactive have released the findings of the 2008 Energy IQ. The annual survey of U.S. energy knowledge illustrated that Americans are more informed about key energy issues than they were one year ago. For instance, more than half the respondents correctly answered that we will need between 16 and 20% more energy between now and 2030. However, some misperceptions remain; respondents underestimated the amount of energy produced in North America.
Earn Your Energy Badge!
The American Petroleum Institute (API) is proud to support the Boy Scouts of America’s Energy Merit Badge. This website is intended to assist the scout and merit badge counselors with information about the oil and natural gas industry and to supplement the merit badge book.
To the scouts: Be sure to ask your scoutmaster for approval, and be sure to meet with your merit badge counselor, before starting work on the Energy Merit Badge.
We recommend you obtain and read the Energy Merit Badge book from the Boy Scouts of America. Much of the information you need to complete this merit badge can be found in the merit badge book.
Energy and Society Education Program
API has partnered with Project Learning Tree (PLT), an award-winning environmental education organization to develop the "Energy and Society" K-8 education program. These multi-disciplinary education materials help students understand the critical role that energy plays in their daily lives. Program components include a music CD and video, posters, study guide and web site. For more information about the program, please visit PLT's web site at www.plt.org.
Adventures in Energy Online Interactive Module
Adventures in Energy is an interactive Flash-based demonstration of some of the cutting-edge technologies being used in the exploration, production, and transportation of oil and natural gas. Explore some of the innovative practices that are being used to provide us with the safe, reliable energy supply that helps to power our everyday lives.
