Relationships with the Alaska Native Community

Alyeska Pipeline has a special relationship with the Alaska Native Community through its Alaska Native Program and its commitment to attain a 20% Alaska Native hire in the company by 2004. The company annually invests considerable sums to support education and development opportunities and provides scholarships to educational institutions, Native organizations or their subsidiaries, and Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) contractors. The total commitment amounts to $3.75 million awarded Alaska Native students pursuing higher education since 1996.

In addition to this monetary commitment Alyeska has a Advisory Board comprised of leaders from the Native and business communities as well as TAPS contractors. More than half of the members work external to the company. The Advisory Board meets quarterly and provides advice and counsel for operation of the Alaska Native Program.

Alyeska’s Building Foundations for Excellence program (BFEP) was started in 1999. This program boasts over 70% Alaska Native participants working in manager, engineering, technician and administrative positions. The aim is to bring you people into the company as interns, provide them mentors and ultimately convert them into regular Alyeska positions.

Alyeska believes in building long-term relationships with Alaska’s Native Community and actively participates in the annual convention of the statewide organization, The Alaska Federation of Natives by reporting to the over 2,500 delegates, sponsoring various events and awards, and providing volunteers. Alyeska, along with the TAPS owner company representatives, meets with Alaska Native leadership on a regular basis to solidify these relationships.
