The Face of Education

Dictionary and textbook aid Azerbaijan´s educational reform. An Azerbaijani-English dictionary that represents more than 25 years of research and the first elementary school textbook to teach reading in the Azerbaijani-Latin alphabet are now printed and in circulation.

The company worked with Azeri businesses through the relief agency, Care International, to develop and print these books. After the country gained its independence, it launched educational reform that included restoring the Azeri language, history and literature in schools nationwide.

The country had used the Russian language, and its Cyrillic alphabet, for decades. “It is particularly important for us to assist in the education of refugee children who run the risk of becoming lost educationally,” says George W. MacDonald, general manger of Exxon Azerbaijan Operating Company.“ By helping educate youth today, we are helping build a strong Azerbaijan for tomorrow.”
