Serving the Community

Murphy Oil participates in a wide-range of company-wide efforts to strengthen the communities in which it operates.

Murphy has carefully, thoughtfully and successfully built partnerships with civic, educational and charitable initiatives in communities from Arkansas to Ecuador. The Company has also initiated programs that help showcase and promote the work of others as a way of encouraging volunteerism and recognizing its value.

In the U.S., the Murphy Education Program has been enhanced to include six categories in which students in the El Dorado, Arkansas, public school system can earn cash awards. The program provides direct financial awards to students for exemplary performance on standardized tests and at specific grade levels.

In Canada, Murphy has developed a Murphy Oil Scholarship Program, which grants annual awards to the sons and daughters of Murphy employees who meet academic excellence criteria. Murphy’s Canadian operations have also been recognized and honored as having one of the highest United Way employee participation levels.

Murphy also supports the ongoing educational needs of its employees through an Employee Educational Assistance Program. The program encourages employees interested in extending their knowledge and capability through outside study and participation in educational programs. The Company reimburses the cost of tuition, textbooks and some required fees employees incur at accredited schools, colleges, universities or trade schools.

Claiborne P. Deming, President & CEO of Murphy Oil Corporation was the driving force behind the creation of the El Dorado Education Foundation, a $1.6 million endowment fund established to improve the quality of teaching and learning in El Dorado public schools.
