ExxonMobil Pipeline Company joined with regulatory agencies to increase habitat for protected coastal birds near the busy Houston Ship Channel in Texas. The effort was part of a pipeline relocation project in which ExxonMobil enlarged a four-acre island to accommodate the long-term needs of ground-nesters, including the black skimmer, least tern, Forster's tern and gull-billed tern. The first nesting season on the island drew more than 300 pairs of the protected birds.
