Petro-Canada has joined the Canadian Nature Federation to support its initiatives by donating $25,000 to the Federation’s ‘Canadian Important Bird Areas Program’. This program supports a variety of bird preservation initiatives in Sherwood Park, Winnipeg, St. John’s and Vancouver.
The Squamish River in Northern British Columbia may be characterized by its spawning salmon and dense forest, but there is another factor that gives shape to this land of sweeping vegetation and natural habitat. In 1994, the Squamish area reported a world record of Bald Eagle sightings. It is the Bald Eagle that adds pigmentation to the vast wilderness of the Squamish River Valley. The protection of this species and its habitat has become a priority to environment groups not only within the area, but around the country. The Eagle Watch program was developed in 1995 as an eagle run shelter and conservation initiative. The Canadian Nature Federation has since supported this initiative and others like it aimed at the creation of bird sanctuaries and preservation programs and initiatives across the country.

The ‘Canadian Important Bird Areas Program’ is just one example of the Canadian Nature Federation’s many programs.
Petro-Canada believes that corporations and communities working together can generate sustainable environmental development and preservation.
