Recognition for Wildlife Habitat Improvement

The Wyoming Hunting & Fishing Heritage Expo brings together the entire natural resource community, including the minerals industry, of Wyoming and surrounding states and the public and private sector to celebrate and learn about our common outdoor heritage. Devon Energy is a partner in this unique educational event that offers free hand-on activities stressing the safe and responsible use and management of our great outdoors to school children, families, and youth organizations from rural and urban communities around Wyoming.

During the 2002 Heritage Awards Banquet, the Wyoming Game & Fish Department awarded the 2002 Coalbed Methane Natural Resource Stewardship Award to Devon Energy Corporation for the benefits they have provided to wildlife habitat. The company has taken great care to minimize habitat disturbance on its drilling sites and to utilize the ground water released in producing coalbed methane. Devon removes old tanks and re-vegetates the disturbed sites and administers extensive weed control on their leases. Devon pipes the water tapped by drilling to new and existing stock ponds. "The water has enhanced wildlife habitat in ponds and along several miles of normally intermittent drainages," Commissioner Tom Thorne noted.

The event brings together the entire natural resource community, including the minerals industry, of Wyoming and surrounding states and the public and private sector to celebrate and learn about our common outdoor heritage. The goal of the Expo is to provide opportunities for all persons to learn skills, safety, ethics, respect, and stewardship important in the conduct and appreciation of all outdoor pursuits that will sustain our natural world through its citizen’s responsible choices.
