The University of Alberta established a new National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair in Integrated Landscape Management (ILM), partnering with the Alberta Government and various industry partners in Canada. ConocoPhillips is a proud supporter of this research, contributing $50,000 over five years to this important research.
The ILM Research Chair was established in 2001 with funding of more than $2.5 million from all the partners. The key objectives of the ILM Research Chair, with a staff of nine researchers, is to develop best management practices aimed at reducing the size, duration and intensity of industrial disturbances to forest ecosystems. Another key focus is to improve our understanding of how forest ecosystems respond to industrial activities and the best management practices.
