Emergency and Spill Response Preparedness

Pipeline Spill Prevention
Alyeska Pipeline spends over $60 million annually to oil spill prevention and response in Prince William Sound, and has dedicated over 300 personnel to this effort, mostly through its Ship Escort/Response Vessel System (SERVS). Created in July 1989, SERVS is considered one of the best oil spill prevention and response forces in the world.

API Honors Alyeska
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company won API’s Large Operator Environmental Award for 2003. This is the second year in a row Alyeska received this honor for companies with the best spill prevention and containment performance records.

Educational Materials and General Program Development

School-Business Partnership
Alyeska Pipeline has a school-business partnership with Russian Jack Elementary School – one of the most diverse and low-income schools in the Anchorage School District. As a partner, Alyeska provides volunteers to read to the children, hosts the entire student body for Halloween trick or treating, provides quarterly lunches for students, and provides a Thanksgiving lunch at the school which serves over 400 students who might not otherwise get a holiday dinner. During the year Alyeska also provides tickets to various cultural and educational events.

Educational Materials for Teachers
Alyeska has a prepared packet of information which we send teachers in response to requests. This packet includes a poster, brochures, a Fact Book and a three-part video about the Trans Alaska Pipeline System.

President’s Community Panel
Alyeska Pipeline created the President’s Community Panel in 1999. When structuring this Panel, Alyeska looked for a diverse group of community and ”thought leaders” - individuals who reflect a cross-section of Alaskan communities and industries.

Relationships with the Alaska Native Community
Alyeska Pipeline has a special relationship with the Alaska Native Community through its Alaska Native Program and its commitment to attain a 20% Alaska Native hire in the company by 2004. The company annually invests considerable sums to support education and development opportunities and provides scholarships to educational institutions, Native organizations or their subsidiaries, and Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) contractors. The total commitment amounts to $3.75 million awarded Alaska Native students pursuing higher education since 1996.

Children: Alaska’s Greatest Natural Resource
Alyeska Pipeline believes that children are Alaska’s greatest natural resource. Knowing that children reflect the communities in which they live, Alyeska promotes activities, organizations, and causes that empower children to be responsible, caring, respectful, and productive citizens.
